How to: Work With Retail Messages
In this article
The system gives each new Retail Message an ID from the number series set in the Retail Message Setup. The status is New until you activate the message. When the message has been activated, you can no longer change it.
A Retail Message can contain a request for an action. The action is defined with an Action Code. If that Retail Message has a list of Recipients, the message is marked as Processed when the first user processes it, and other recipients will not see the message on their list any more.
To create a Retail Message
- Click the icon, enter Retail Messages, and select the relevant link.
- Click the New action, and fill in the relevant fields on the Retail Message Card.
- Subject
- Action Code - if that is preferred. Use a blank field for general messages.
- Active From Date
- Active From Time
- Message Body - free message text. The lines are displayed on the POS as they are entered here.
- Recipients - here you have a few recipient types available: Group, User name, Store, Terminal, and Staff.
- The message is now ready for activation. Click Actions - Activate.
- The message is sent.
Note: The Active From Date field lets you activate messages at a future date. You can edit messages until the Active From Date and time have passed.
To edit a Retail Message
- Click the icon, enter Retail Messages, and select the relevant link.
- Click Manage - Edit to edit an existing message.
When a user processes an information message, in other words a message that does not contain an action code, the system will only mark that the user has processed the message but will not mark the Retail Message as Processed until all recipients have processed the message.
In the Message Body section, you can add free text lines. When the message is read on the POS, the message is displayed as it is entered here.
Retail Message actions
You can run the following actions directly from the Retail Message Card:
Activate | The Activate action is used to activate a message. The message gets the status Active and if the Active From field is empty, the current date and time is assigned to the field when you click the action. Recipients and Status lines are created from the Recipients section with the Recipient Status New. |
Set Message as Processed | This action is used to set the status of the current message to Processed. |
Cancel Message | This action is used to set the status of the current message to Canceled. |
Process for Recipient - Set as Read | Use this action to set the recipient status to Read by Recipient. This will only mark the Recipient and Status line for the currently logged-in user. This action will not change the recipient status for other recipients. |
Process for Recipient - Set as Processed | Use this action to set the recipient status to Processed by Recipient. This will only mark the Recipient and Status line for the currently logged-in user. This action will not change the recipient status for other recipients. |
Custom Process | If a message contains an Action Code, you can run the action directly from the Retail Message Card by clicking the Custom Process action. |
Recipients FastTab
You add recipients of a Retail Message in the Recipients FastTab. The available Recipients types are described below:
Recipient Type | Description |
---|---|
Username | A message that is addressed to a specific Username can only be retrieved on a computer that is logged on to the system with that user’s credentials. You can select a user name from the User table. |
Store | A message addressed to a specific Store can only be retrieved on a POS client that is running in that particular store. You can select a Store number from the Store table. |
Terminal | A message addressed to a specific Terminal number can only be retrieved on a POS client that is running that POS Terminal number. You can select a POS terminal number from the POS Terminal table. |
Staff | A message addressed to a specific POS Staff ID can only be retrieved on a POS client that has been logged on by that POS Staff ID. You can select a staff ID from the Staff table. |
Group | When a message is addressed to a Group of receivers, the system will explode the group when the message is activated. You can select a group ID from the Retail Message Recipient Groups. A Group can contain all the types above. |
