How to: Configure Manager Key Functionality

This article describes two different methods to give cashiers temporary manager privileges so that they can, for example, give a discount or void an item. How to remove manager privileges is also described here.

For a more detailed description of all these configurations see How to: Configure Logon Functionality.

Using the Manager Login POS operation

  • Add a button to your POS layout with the POS command MGRKEY.

Clicking this button and logging on as a manager gives the current user manager privileges.

Using a Card login (with an MSR device)

  • Go to the POS Functionality Profile Card, the Staff & Login FastTab, and select Manager Key in the Card Logon at Sale field.

When the cashier is logged on to the POS and the manager swipes his or her card, the cashier is given manager privileges.

Note: The settings Staff Takeover in Trans. and Manager Takeover in Trans. is ignored once the setting Card Logon at Sale has been set as Manager.

Removing the Manager privileges

There are three ways to remove the manager privileges from the cashier:

  1. If the manager takes no action after giving the cashier manager privileges, the privileges will remain during the current sale. As soon as the sale has been paid for and posted, the current user will get back his or her privileges.
  2. The manager can click the Manager login button, and have the cashier log back into the POS using his or her credentials.
  3. Click the Mgr: Yes tag in the POS's bottom status bar, and the Manager privileges will be removed.

Note: A Dallas key device can never be used to give Manager privileges.
