The Australian Government is conducting a program to implement Product Level Blocking (PLB) in support of the Cashless Debit Card (CDC) and welfare reform policy.
The objective of this program is to detect restricted items in customer baskets at merchant stores when a customer tenders a CDC for payment. This is ensures that welfare payments are spent in responsible and meaningful ways and not spent on products and activities that contribute to social harm.
Any restricted items need to be removed from the basket before the CDC purchase can be completed.
