By default, a distribution location authenticates all its outgoing web service and replication calls with one shared set of credentials. If many POS terminals send requests through the same distribution location, that shared set of credentials can hit Business Central operational limits, because those limits apply per application rather than per POS terminal.

To spread that traffic across several Entra ID applications, you can assign a specific Entra ID application to a POS terminal or to a group of POS terminals. Each terminal then authenticates with its own client ID and secret, so operational limits apply per user rather than per environment.

Note: Before you begin, register at least one Entra ID application with a client secret. See How to: Register and Manage Multiple Entra ID Applications.

To turn on multiple credentials for a distribution location

  1. click the icon, and enter Distribution Location Card, and select the relevant link. and open the distribution location the POS terminals belong to.
  2. In the Web Server section, select Multiple Credentials.
  3. Select the POS Entra Credentials field to open the POS Entra Credentials page for this distribution location. The field shows how many terminals already have credentials assigned.

To assign an Entra ID application to a group of POS terminals

  1. On the POS Entra Credentials page, select the Assisted Setup action.
  2. On the welcome step, select Next.
  3. In the POS Terminal Filter field, filter or look up the POS terminals you want to register. You can select multiple terminals from the lookup.
  4. In the Client ID field, select the Entra ID application to assign to the filtered terminals.
  5. Select Next, then select Finish.

LS Central creates one POS Entra Credentials record for each terminal that matches the filter, using the client ID you selected. The client secret and the application's description are copied automatically from the Entra ID application.

To assign or update a single terminal manually

  1. On the POS Entra Credentials page, add a new line.
  2. Fill in the Terminal Number.
  3. In the Client ID field, select the Entra ID application to assign to the terminal. The Client Secret and Entra Description fields are filled in automatically from the Entra ID application.

Note: If you create a new client secret for an Entra ID application (see How to: Register and Manage Multiple Entra ID Applications), every POS Entra Credentials record that uses that application's client ID is updated with the new secret automatically.
