If an item (in this case a drug) has a generic drug as an alternative, a setting on the Customer Service page makes the system replace the item with the generic drug by default.

You can also do this manually in the Edit Prescription Order Line page.

To substitute automatically

  1. On the Start Pharmacy Customer Service page, select Yes (Exchange Where Possible) in the Select Generics field.
  2. Click New Order on the Home or Actions menus to create a new order with automatic substitution.

To substitute manually

  1. Go to the Issued Item & Delivered Item FastTab on the Edit Prescription Order Line page.
  2. Click the arrow in the Delivered Item field.
  3. The Pharmacy Item Replace Search page opens. If a substitute for the item exists, it appears in a list.
  4. Select the substitute item, and click OK.

To substitute manually in POS

  1. Log into the POS as a Pharmacist or Cashier.
  2. Select the prescription order line with the prescribed drug that is to be substituted.
  3. Click Substitute in the Prescription section in the Order view.
