The client for POA is the customer who is giving the delegate a power of attorney. When you set up a client for POA, a delegate must exist. For more information see How to: Define a Delegate.

To set up a client for POA

  1. On the Actions menu in the Role Center, click POA Givers.
  2. Click New on the Home actions menu.
  3. Fill in the fields in the General FastTab as described in the following table:

  1. To add the delegate, fill in the fields in the POA Delegate FastTab:

    • Person - the customer is a single person.
    • Group - the customer is a group, for example a nursing home.
Code Here you select the code for the customer type. If the type is a Person, the code would be the customer's SSN. If the type is a Group, the code would be the name of the group's SSN.
Name The name of the Person or Group will automatically appear here.
Starting Date Is used when the delegate is temporarily picking up the drugs for the customer.

If the Person or Group should have a starting date, you select the date here. The giver is then not activated until that date arrives.

Ending Date Is used when the delegate is temporarily picking up the drugs for the customer.

If the Person or Group should have an ending date, you select the date here. The giver is then no longer activated after that date.

You have now created a new client as a POA giver; the person appears in the Power of Attorney Givers page.

This person can now be selected in the drop-down list on the POA Delegate FastTab on the Power of Attorney Giver card, which you can access by clicking the POA Givers action on the Role Center's Actions menu.

In cases where the POA giver is an institution, the process is basically the same as for individuals. The only difference is that on the Power of Attorney Giver card, you select Group instead of Person in the Type field on the POA Delegate FastTab.

After the group has been created, the group appears in the Power of Attorney Groups card, which you can access by clicking the POA Groups action on the Actions menu in the Role Center.
