How to: Create Pharmacy Item and Pharmacy Product from Retail Items

In some cases, retail items may be prescribed where part of the payment is covered by public or private insurance. In these cases the item is first created as a Retail Item, and then it must also be created as a Pharmacy Product.

You can create a Pharmacy Product and a Pharmacy Item directly from the Retail Item Card.

To create a Pharmacy Product and a Pharmacy Item from Retail Items

Note: It is assumed that the retail item already exists. If it does not, see Retail Items for information on how to create one.

  1. In the Pharmacy Role Center, click Retail Items in the left navigation pane. Find the item you need to edit, and click Edit on the Home actions menu.
  2. Click Create Pharmacy Item on the Home action menu. The Create Pharmacy Item From Item window opens.
  3. Fill in the Product Type, Item Type, and Default Profile fields.
  4. In the Number Source field for the Pharmacy Product and the Pharmacy Item, select Same Number as Item, and click OK.
  5. The Pharmacy Item card opens. Fill in more information, if needed, and click OK.

The Retail Item has now been created, both as a Pharmacy Product and a Pharmacy Item.
