How to: Configure Printing to Windows Printer

This article is a quick overview of how to configure in LS Central a Windows printer to be used as an extra printer for Retail Kitchen Orders.

These instructions are based on the LS Central Demo Data company using restaurant number S0001.

In the following example all kitchen printing is set to be using one Windows printer.

Note: You can set the system up differently; it is optional to set up the system to route items to different printers and/or to set up a combination of kitchen display stations and printers.

To use a Windows printer as Kitchen Printer

  1. Click the icon, enter Store, and select the relevant link.
  2. Open the Store Card for S0001.
  3. In the Kitchen Printing FastTab, set the Kitchen Prod. System in Use field as Retail POS – Printed on Posting. In earlier versions set this to Yes.
  4. Have Active KDS Load Config as PRINT-ONLY in earlier versions.

  1. Click the icon, enter Display Stations, and select the relevant link.
  2. Create a new printer with ID as VP for S0001 or use the existing one.
  3. Display Station Type should be Windows Printer.

  1. Click the icon, enter POS Printer List, and select the relevant link.
  2. In the POS Printer List, click the New action.
  3. In the POS Printer Card, enter a new value in the ID field.
  4. Select your Windows printer in the Printer Device Name field.

  1. Click the icon, enter POS Device Role, and select the relevant link.
  2. In the list, locate the printer with Role KDS, and enter the value VP in the Sub Role field.

  1. Click the icon, enter POS Hardware Profile, and select the relevant link.
  2. Find the Hardware Profile in use (you can see it on the Store or POS Terminal).
  3. Scroll down to the POS Printers section, and connect the device Role to the printer.
  4. Make sure you define this for the active POS Hardware Profile.

  1. Click the icon, enter Section Display Stat. Mappings, and select the relevant link.
  2. Here you need to have a setup for restaurant S0001 with the correct Load Configuration (BLANK or PRINT-ONLY) to route to the new display Station VP.

    The setup should look like this: 

Print Kitchen Orders

  1. Start the Retail POS for Restaurant S0001.
  2. Create a sale.
  3. Post the sale.
  4. The slip prints and all items with Production Code PIZZA are printed on the Windows Printer.
