Delivery and Takeout

When the KDS process is called

Timing

Pre-Orders

For orders that are called in by the customer for delivery or takeout, the KDS functionality is slightly different:

When the KDS process is called

Instead of the KDS process being called when you exit the Sales POS or fire by menu type, it is called when you press CONFIRM when you are back in the Delivery Order view. You need to select the following option in the KDS Display/Printing field in the Hospitality Type page for the DELIVERY, TAKEAWAY and PRE-ORDER hospitality types:

  • On Confirm (Del./Takeout order) – When you are back in the Delivery Order view after entering the item lines of a delivery or takeout order and you press Confirm, the system sends the order through the KDS process.

Timing

For delivery & takeout orders:

  • A KOT due date and time is customer pickup date and time.
  • KOT expected production start time (the time the KOT is displayed in the KDS) is Due date and time minus the estimated production time for the restaurant.

For other orders:

  • A KOT expected production start time is KOT creation date.
  • KOT due date and time is KOT creation date and time + KOT time in minutes.

It is possible to put a KOT on hold through the Send to KDS – Confirm window. The minutes the order is held are added to the expected production start time and due date time.

Pre-Orders

Pre-orders (orders in advance) cannot be displayed on display stations. If you want to have information on pre-orders in the kitchen, you can print them on printer stations. You set up the production section mapping for the PRE-ORDER sales type specifically in the restaurant, if you want to print them out for the kitchen. The printer KOT receives the Sent status.

Orders that are due later the day they are created, appear as delivery or takeout orders On Hold. Orders that are due the day after or later appear in the Pre-orders section. At the appropriate time these orders need to be converted to either delivery or takeout orders On Hold.

At the appropriate time, a scheduled job sends pre-orders again to the KDS process. The existing pre-order printer KOTs are marked as Served. New routings are found for the orders which now have the Delivery or Takeout sales type. New KOTs are created and sent to the display stations and/or printer stations according to the new routings.
