Telemetry Framework for LS Retail Solutions
The LS Telemetry framework is a reusable LS Central extension that gives LS Retail solution teams a consistent, structured way to send telemetry signals to Azure Application Insights. Extensions that depend on the framework can emit signals with configurable verbosity, include structured custom dimensions (including sales-transaction context), correlate related events across session boundaries, and meet AppSource certification requirements—without duplicating telemetry logic in each individual app.
The framework is published on AppSource as a separate extension. LS Retail apps send signals through the Telemetry framework extension aand each app control its own trace level and connection string independently.

Overview
The Telemetry framework provides the following capabilities to dependent extensions:
- Structured telemetry messages — build a telemetry message with a module name, event ID, and any number of key-value custom dimensions before sending it to Application Insights.
- Verbosity filtering — each event carries a verbosity level (Verbose, Normal, Warning, Error, or Critical). A global default trace level set on the Telemetry Setup page controls which events are emitted. Individual apps can override this default with their own app-specific trace level.
- PII protection — the framework automatically redacts a set of known personally identifiable fields (such as customer name, address, and email) from all dimensions before sending.
- Performance tracing — start a trace with a correlation ID, perform the operation, then log the event; the framework calculates and attaches the elapsed time automatically.
- Cross-session correlation — by switching to isolated storage, start and end times for an operation can span multiple Business Central sessions.
- Usage event logging — a lightweight helper for recording user-activity signals, optionally including store, terminal, and receipt context.
The framework is designed for extension developers who build on top of LS Central. To add telemetry to your own extension, see How to: Add telemetry to your extension.
