How to Enable the Mix & Match Offer

Retail items, product groups and variants, can be included in mix & match offers to allow discounts when buying a specific quantity and/or combination of goods.

An example of a mix & match is a group of four items, two different types of soda, a bag of potato chips and one candy bar, where the customer gets the candy bar for free if he or she buys one of either types of soda and the bag of chips.

Benefit Type

Deal Price

A certain number of items in the mix & match offer are sold for the price defined by the group as a whole, the total price is always the same.

Discount %

A certain number of items in the mix & match offer are sold for the discount defined by the group as a whole, the total discount is always the same.

Discount Amount

A certain number of items in the mix & match offer are sold for the discount defined by the group as a whole, the total discount is always the same.

Least Expensive

The least expensive constituent line of the mix & match group is discounted, enabling you for example to give a two for the price of one discount.

By default, the lowest priced item receives a 100% discount (free). This can be updated to whatever discount percentage is desired for the lowest priced item(s).

Line Specific

Each item in the mix & match group has an individual discount or a deal price applied if a certain number of the item is sold, the total price varies depending on which item is sold.

Lines

  1. Select the type that is going to be used for the offer. It can be an item, product group, item category, special group, or all items.

  2. Select the appropriate value based on the type (that is select the item number if item was selected; product group if product group was selected, and so on).

  3. Enter/select variant code (if applicable for the item).

  4. Select the Exclude check box if the item/group is to be excluded. This is useful when a type that is not "Item" is used, however the promotion does not apply to a few items within that group.

  5. Select Unit of Measure if the offer is to apply to a specific Unit of Measure.

  6. In the cell No. of Items Needed, enter the number of items from the item/group that are required to fulfill the offer.

  7. The field Deal Price/Disc.% will only be visible if the Discount Type is set to Line Spec. Each line can have its own discount in these scenarios. Enter the amount or percentage for the discount. The Disc. Type field defines whether the value entered here is a percent or amount.

  8. Line groups are used to allow you to define the different mix and match elements to your offer. For example, if you have an offer where you buy a qualifying pair of pants that the customer gets a belt for free, you can define the different pairs of pants that are included in the offer and assign them all line group A, and all belts that are part of the offer would be assigned line group B. When using the Least Expensive discount type with 100% discount, when a pair of pants in the offer are purchased and then a belt in the list is added, the least expensive of the 2 items would be free.

Select the appropriate line group. Note: Line groups are per offer, so creating a new offer requires creating new lines. See Line Group for more information on how to create line groups for the offer.

Line Group

Line groups give you the ability to define groupings of items that are used to compile the mix and match offer. For example, buying 2 items from group A will give the lowest priced item in group B for free.

The example shows 2-line groups being created, where quantity of 2 from Line Group A and quantity of 1 from Line Group B is needed to trigger the offer.

Create as many line groups as necessary (some situations only need one line group, others need several).

Do not create more line groups than needed (do not create extra) or an error will be presented when trying to enable the offer.
