SQL server

The Database Engine is the core service for storing, processing, and securing data. The Database Engine provides controlled access and rapid transaction processing to meet the requirements of the most demanding data consuming applications within your enterprise.

Data from Business Central (either from access into the system using Windows/web/mobile clients or through Data Director data replication) are read and written to the SQL Server database.

For more information see Microsoft SQL documentation.

SQL database

For LS Central, create a new database. Follow Microsoft's instructions for your version of MS SQL.

For more information see Microsoft SQL documentation.

Server account

The server account is used by LS Central to log into the Business Server instance and database. Creating a domain server account, instead of using the Network Service account, provides additional security as well as the ability to use the same account to run the SQL Server, regardless of whether the SQL Server is on the same computer or not.

The domain server account must:

  • Be enabled to log in as a service.
  • Be enabled to register an SPN on itself.
  • Be added to the SMSvcHost.exe.config file.
  • Be provided the appropriate database privileges in SQL Server.

Once the account is created, the next step is to assign the necessary SQL Server privileges.

For instructions on creating a Business Central server account and the SQL Server privileges to be assigned see Microsoft SQL documentation.
