Product Level Blocking (PLB)

The Australian Government runs a program that requires retailers to block the sale of certain restricted goods when the shopper pays with a Cashless Debit Card (CDC). The purpose of the program is to ensure that welfare payments are spent on goods that support the recipient's well-being and are not spent on products that contribute to social harm.

In LS Central, Product Level Blocking (PLB) implements this requirement at the POS. The POS detects restricted items in the basket whenever a CDC is tendered for payment. If any restricted item is present, the cashier must either remove it, override the flag (where allowed), or pay for it with a non-CDC tender before the sale can be completed.

For the list of restricted items and the types of merchants that are in scope, see Restricted Items and Merchants in Scope.
