Benefits of RFID scanning

Once your RFID device is configured, you can use it to quickly scan items into journals at the POS, streamlining inventory management and checkout processes.

Enabling RFID functionality

Before using the RFID scanner, you must enable the RFID functionality:

  1. Navigate to the POS Panel Card in LS Central.
  2. Select the RFID Enabled check box.
  3. Save your changes to activate RFID scanning capabilities.

Scanning items with RFID

After enabling the RFID functionality, you can scan items into the journal:

  1. Open the POS.
  2. Ensure your RFID device is connected and ready.
  3. Bring the item's RFID tag close to the RFID device.
  4. The device automatically scans the tag, and adds the item to the journal.
  5. Continue scanning additional items as needed - each valid RFID tag will add its corresponding item to the journal.

Manual RFID scanning control

In addition to the automatic scanning behavior, you can manually control the RFID scanning process using POS commands:

  • RFID_START - this command manually initiates RFID scanning.
  • RFID_STOP - this command manually stops RFID scanning.

These commands are particularly useful in environments where RFID readings might be unreliable due to store layouts, interference from other electronic devices, or other conditions that might affect signal quality. By manually controlling when scanning starts and stops, you can ensure more accurate readings in challenging environments.

Recommendation: For most standard retail environments, we recommend using the automatic RFID scanning behavior. Only use the manual control commands when necessary to address specific environmental challenges.

Managing scanned items

After scanning items with the RFID device:

  • Items with valid RFID tags appear in the journal with their complete information.
  • You can continue to add more items by scanning additional RFID tags.
  • Process the journal according to your standard procedures once all items have been scanned.

Removing RFID scanned items

When you need to remove RFID scanned items from the journal, there are two options available:

  1. Using the REFRESH_RFID command: This command voids all RFID scanned items from the journal and re-reads all item tags currently within the RFID device's range. This is useful when you need to update the journal with the current set of items.
  2. Voiding the entire transaction: If you need to start over completely, you can void the whole transaction.

Important Note: Voiding a single RFID scanned item line is not possible. This limitation exists because it is impossible to determine which specific tag you want to void in the journal, and allowing selective removal could lead to inventory discrepancies. This design ensures accurate inventory tracking when using RFID technology.

Troubleshooting RFID scanning

  • If an item is not recognized, verify that it has a valid RFID tag properly registered in the system.
  • Ensure the RFID device is properly connected and configured.
  • Check that the RFID Enabled setting is activated on the POS Panel Card.
  • Try moving the RFID scanner closer to the item's tag for better signal reception.

Benefits of RFID scanning

  • Significantly faster item entry compared to manual input or barcode scanning.
  • Ability to scan multiple items simultaneously.
  • Reduction in human error in inventory management.
  • Improved checkout speed and customer satisfaction.
